What Nintendo did about the problem Zelda:Tears of Kingdom Has LEAKED?

As we all know, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdom will launch on 12th May. But ahead of 13 days before the release date, the game was leaked by some malicious person.

Let's take a look back at leaking the whole episode:

30 April 2023: A user on Mercari was selling physical copies of Zelda:Tears of Kingdom, the price even up to $300! They managed to fulfill some orders before the link was shut down.

When the leaked physical copies were sold on Mecari, it didn’t take long for a 15 Second video clip of the beginning area a few hours before this post was made.

Then there is a stream opened on Discord on a Switch emulator about the game. Multiple invites were shared to this Discord server. There are about 1000 people watching the stream, so the sudden increase in viewing even made the stream crash.

The invites were disabled. But Tortoise Admin on the discord already announced that they are uploading the leak to various filesharing websites. And this leak continues to spread around the world.

This situation also happened in 2017 before The Wii U version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild launched.

Then, what Nintendo commented on and acted for this event?

Of course, Nintendo will take legal action to pursue if they find out the leakers and taken swift action to remove the leaked content from the internet. And they pursue Discord in order to identify the user responsible for leaking copyrighted material from the artbook of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom earlier this year.

Nintendo has a history of taking legal action against leakers, as seen in the 2019 leak of Pokémon Sword and Shield, which was traced back to someone involved in the printing of the game's strategy guide. To prevent leaks, Nintendo implements strict measures such as securing guides in protected areas and prohibiting personal recording devices. The lawsuit resulted in a settlement of $150,000. This showcases Nintendo's steadfast commitment to protecting its intellectual property by removing fan mods, hacks, and emulations that threaten its brand.

Why We Need to Resist Leakage?

In fact, leaks of highly anticipated games have become increasingly common in recent years. The reason for this is simple: the demand for information about new games is incredibly high, and there are always people who are willing to risk their reputation and legal consequences to provide it. However, while leaks may generate buzz and excitement in the short term, they ultimately do more harm than good for both the company and the fans.

For the company, leaks can result in lost sales, damage to reputation, and compromised intellectual property. For the fans, leaks can ruin the excitement of discovering a new game, as well as potentially spoil key plot points and surprises. In short, leaks are bad for everyone involved.

As we approach the official release date of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it's important to remember that leaks do not benefit anyone. While it's natural to want to know as much as possible about a game before its release, it's always best to wait for the official launch and experience the game in its intended form. In the meantime, let's hope that Nintendo is able to track down those responsible for the leak and take appropriate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.
